Army Public School Ambala Cantt is governed by Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), a registered body under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 for the purpose of establishing and running various Army Schools. The Society has a chain of 137 Army Schools/Army Public Schools in India. Since 1981, the growth of the school has been as under:-
(a) | 1981 | Started by HQ PH & HP Area by converting the Golden Lion Primary School and renamed as Army High School with classes upto VIII and Str of 264 children and 26 members of the staff |
(b) | 1981 | School (Army High School) came under AWES wef 01 Apr 1981 |
(c) | 1982 | Affiliated to CBSE |
(d) | 1982 | The School was founded on 26 Aug 1982 |
(e) | 1984 | i) First batch of class X passed outii) Name changed to Army School |
(f) | 1985 | School taken over by HQ 2 Corps (Edn) and affiliated to CBSE for Classes XI & XII |
(g) | 1987 | 1st+2 batch (Science Stream) passed out |
(h) | 1987-88 | Strength increased to 1210 |
(i) | 1988 | Computer Science added as a Subject |
(j) | 1991-92 | Commerce stream introduced |
(k) | 1993-93 | Humanities stream introduced |
(l) | 2001 | The subject of 'Informatics Practices' replaced 'Computer Sc' |
(m) | 2002-07 | School infrastructure has also grown according to the demandsof the populace and students strength increased upto 4100 |
(n) | 2008-09 | Re-designated as Army Public School by Lt Gen JP Singh, AVSM,Patron on 15 Aug 2008. |
(o) | 2009-10 | The Comd & Control of APS Ambala Cantt taken over by 'A' Branch,HQ 2 Corps wef 21.5.09 with Brig 'A' as Chairman |
(p) | 2010-11 | Strength increased to 4700 |
(q) | 2011-12 | School Website launched by Chairperson Kharga AWWA on 04.8.11 |
(r) | 2012-13 | Strength increased to 4910 |
(s) | 2016-17 | Strength increased to 5842 |
